Happy new album day! We Made Ourselves a Home When We Didn't Know is now out in the world, walking around on it's own two legs, meeting new people, living its life. And we're thrilled for you to hear it.
This 13 song album, maybe more than any other, has been the album that we've been wanting to release for a while. Many of these songs were written before we packed it all into the camper, quite a few were written on the road---literally as we were driving---and a couple more we found hidden in the kitchen cabinet when we were looking for our favorite coffee cups the morning before we went into the studio. It's an album about home and about wandering and the great tension that exists for creatures like us, creatures who can't help but make a home and leave it. It's about the reliability of impermanence. Or it's just an album about us and our friends; a love story with a couple dogs, many miles between different cities, losing touch with old friends, reconnecting and redefining.
We've dedicated this record to our road dog, Butter, who passed away last November very suddenly. She knew these songs and where they came from as well as we do and we feel lucky that we got to have such a good bandmate. She made our home a happy place and made us feel like we were home, wherever we actually were. And what a year we had with her and Puddle, two doggies with their two people in that little dang camper! They were both there at our feet while we made this entire album.
We've got some people to thank: East Nashville's Dave Coleman, who produced and played on this record and helped us make something we love. Good friends and the rhythm section that talks back, Chris Leonard on drums and Mike Shannon on bass. You'll also hear Marc Herring sing background vocals and rip through a killer electric guitar solo on track 13. Thanks for playing on our songs and making them what they are- Glad we got the band back together. And of course thank you to everyone who contributed to our Kickstarter Campaign, funding the album and making this possible. We'd make music even if you weren't listening, but it's an incredible experience for us when you do. Thank you!
Enough of us going on and on about it. We're really proud of what we've made and can't wait for you to hear it.
